I spent a super fun morning with the Fongs at Fashion Island on Memorial Day.  I was smiling all night when I looked through these images. They look so happy together! The more I photograph families, the more I love being a photographer.  I feel so blessed to be able to document other people’s joyful moments and happy lives.  And also getting to know them more.  One thing I learned about the Fongs is that they are really good at telling pee-poo jokes! These guys cracked me up!

XO,

It was one of our typical Saturday mornings, going around town looking for new spots to photograph.  I’m sure there are so many places that would look great in a photo but I just never realize or pay attention.  They don’t have to be a “kodak photo spot”.  Sometimes just a plain wall does magic.  You’d never know that they turn out looking nice in photographs.

blog-5-181She is very into posing for me recently. Sometimes it’s too overkill that I need to tell her not to pose.  It’s amusing to see her try to be cute.

img_0781bI was shooting from above the elevator. Ha! Just kidding.

In celebration of our new camera, Ricky and I went to our favorite dessert place after dinner, and then we started doing some testings. No flash was used.

spectrumISO 6400 – the noise is acceptable to me and I know I will go up to 6400 quite often when shooting indoors.

spectrum-2Max ISO 25600 – as you can see the noise is very visible, but I love having that option there when I need it.
And the 24-70mm on a full frame makes a nice difference.

My Third Child

May 7, 2009

Don’t freak out…I’m only talking about my new camera Canon 5D Mark ii.  I’ve had my 20D for 4 good years now.  It’s been good and faithful to me, but I’m starting to really feel the limitation it has on what I need.  So here’s my new buddy.  I can’t wait to see some full frame images on ISO 25600 from this guy.  So long 20D!  It’s been nice working with you these years.

Both of these pictures were taken right after they woke up from nap last Sunday. See the difference?

Morning Workout

May 1, 2009

My nanny was off today, which means I had to take care of Annabelle and Christian (both infected with Herpangina) all by myself this morning before grandma and grandpa arrived.  At first I thought, “It should be fine, only a few hours.” It turned out to be a three-hour “aerobic” and “weight-lifting” workout session for me.  I started off with an hour of “aerobics”:

7:15 am – Poured milk for Annabelle. (Repeated 3 times) She was too hungry after yesterday’s food strike. She usually doesn’t like milk. Her hand was shaking when she held her cup.
7:20 am – Decided to make some muffins since they’re more likely to end up in Annabelle’s mouth.   So I prepared the blueberry muffin mix (Wishing I had bought the ready to eat muffins instead.)
7: 28 am – Ricky turned on the TV for Annabelle (Thank you. That was a big help!)  Then he left for work.
7:35 am – Heard Christian’s wake-up cry.  Ran up the stairs, brought him down and got him his milk.
7:40 am – Put the muffins in the oven.
7:42 am – Annabelle threw up a “sea” of milk on the couch. (Should I clean her up first or clean the couch first?) I decided to put her aside, ran over to grab some paper towels to soak up the milk first.
7:43 am – Christian threw his half finished milk on the floor. (His way of telling me he was done and ready to move on to something else.)  — Ignore for now.
7:44 am – Cleaned up Annabelle and get her changed.
7:48 am – Picked up Christian’s milk and cleaned the floor. Warned him not to do it again. (as if he would listen!)
7:51 am – Went back to the couch and finished cleaning.
7:55 am – Muffins were ready. Served on their plates and “begged” Annabelle to eat. (She did!)
7:58 am – Washed the dishes.
8:12 am – Cleaned up Christian.
8:15 am – Christian does his business every day after breakfast. That means, time to change diaper.

What? It’s only been an hour since my day has started.

The following two hours were my “weight-lifting” workout + more “aerobics”.  Christian was so clingy these few days that he wanted me to hold him all the time, or he would throw a tantrum on the floor.  Lifting a 25 lb. weight that bounces around is not easy for me.  And his temper stinks as bad as his mouth while he’s sick!  He has turned into Monster Christian!

Finally at 10:30, grandma and grandpa were here.  I was exhausted!  Please…let me go back to work so I can rest.

I pray for more strength and patience to take care of Annabelle and Christian.  When I think about it more, it really is a blessing to be able to take care of my kids when they need me.  I still pay my highest repect to all SAHMs, especially those with two or more kids.  And I really thank God for grandparents!

(No time for phototaking this time.)
